The English Premier League saw a lot of missed chances as Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal stumbled to a draw. With the Manchester City and Everton’s respective games postponed due to bad weather, EPL Matchday 26 seemed like two days full of missed points. Here are the things we learned from the games:
Stalemate serves as a loss for both sides (Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United)
Arsenal squandered an opportunity to return to the Premier League summit with the 0-0 stalemate at the Emirates Stadium. Manchester United on the other hand lost out their chance to close the gap on Everton (whose match was postponed) and Tottenham who have been in great form off late. Even though the result hampered both side’s respective ambitions, both will be glad they managed at least 1 point more the big game.
Chelsea are struggling with their lack of finishing (West Brom 1-1 Chelsea)
The London side wasted a golden opportunity to increase their lead up top. Victor Anichebe helped West Brom have the last laugh by scoring through a header to draw 1-1. The game was a considerable test for Jose Mourinho’s side, after a comfortable 3-0 win against Newcastle. Even though Eden Hazard is in spectacular form, the Belgian could not get involved enough to prove decisive, while Samuel Eto’o had another off day as the striker.
Liverpool are going for the title (Fulham 2-3 Liverpool)
The Reds put in an inspired performance against lowly Fulham to come back from 2-1 to win 2-3 at Craven Cottage. A late Steven Gerrard penalty was enough to nick a win away for the Merseyside team as they closed the gap on the league leaders Chelsea to just 4 points. After thumping Arsenal 5-1, it was a great result to keep the momentum going for their bid to win the EPL. There’s nothing stopping Liverpool from challenging the top sides.
