French Open 2014: Eugenie Bouchard reaches semi-finals at Roland Garros

20 year-old Eugenie Bouchard from Canada successfully made to her second semi-finals appearance at grand slam event after 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-5 win over Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro. She earlier made to semi-finals of Australian Open 2014 where she lost to eventual champion Li Na.

Playing at the Court Suzanne Lenglen, Eugenie Bouchard took the first set after the much fought tie-braker in an hour. But Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro made a solid comeback to take the next set 6-2. Bouchard in the deciding set fell 4-1 behind and came back from behind to win the last set 7-5.

With this win, Eugenie Bouchard became the first Canadian player to make to the semi-finals of both Australian and French Open.  The eighteenth seed Bouchard next plays seventh seed and title favourite Maria Sharapova for a spot in the maiden final.

Maria Sharapova playing at Court Philippe Chatrier defeated another Spanish player Garbine Muguruza 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. Garbine Muguruza had earlier knocked out the defending champion Serena Williams.

Eugenie Bouchard finished with 46 winners, 38 unforced errors in the match that lasted for two hours 22 minutes.
