French Open 2014 Results at a glance: Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova take the top honours

With several rounds of high action and top quality of tennis, the Roland Garros found its rightful winners in form of Rafael Nadal of Spain and Maria Sharapova of Russian winning the top accolades. The World No. 1 won his ninth Coupe de Mousquetaires with the victory over second seeded Novak Djokovic to become the first player in the history of Open Era to defend Roland Garros title for fifth straight year. As for the women’s singles was concerned, it was the gritty and determined Maria Sharapova who battled her way through during the entire tournament to win her Coupe Suzanne Lenglen for second time. She earlier won the French Open title in 2012.
