Australia found the first wicket when Josh Hazlewood in his first over had Vijay (10) caught behind. Then it was Mitchell Starc who grabbed two wickets in one over. The left-arm fast bowler sent Cheteshwar Pujara (6) and Virat Kohli (0) back to the pavilion in the space of just three balls. India was pushed to back-foot then only.

Remaining damage was caused by spinner Steve O’Keefe who took six-wicket haul and ran through Indian middle order. O’Keefe first victim was KL Rahul who was also the highest scorer for India in the first innings. Rahul played a rash stroke against O’Keefe and was caught near long-off. The right-hander scored 68.

It was this over that shifted the momentum completely in India’s favour as O’Keefe picked bagged three wickets in one over. Other than Rahul, O’Keefe removed Rahane (13) and Wriddhiman Saha’s (0) in the same over. India was suffering at 95 for six at that point of the game. Then came Ravi Ashwin who was expected to at least stay on the pitch and take India to a respectable score, but, just like other batsmen he too failed. Ashwin was removed by Nathan Lyon and he added only one run to the scoreboard. India batted terribly and lost seven wickets for just 11 runs. On the other hand, Australia took a good first innings lead due to quick downfall of India.

Australia once again came out to bat on the day 2 and till stumps, they managed to score 143 runs for the loss of four wickets. Steven Smith scored an impressive half-century while Ashwin bagged three wickets and Jayant Yadav picked one.

It will be an interesting even to see that how fast team India can pick up the remaining wickets on day three and stop Australia from setting a huge target for the hosts.
