Australia won by 333 runs, India Vs Australia 2017, 1st Test Day 3 Highlights

Hello and welcome to India.com’s live coverage of India vs Australia 1st Test 2017 Day three. On day two Australia took control of the match as India succumbed to 105, their ninth-lowest total in Test cricket. Australia’s left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe claimed a five-wicket haul as he cleaned the Indian middle order after Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood rattled India early in the innings. Stay tuned for live score updates.

Preview by Sudipta Biswas: After bowling out Australia for 260, India began their innings and got off to a horrendous start. The hosts lost three wickets for 44 runs. Josh Hazlewood removed Murali Vijay early one and then middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was caught behind off an outstanding Mitchell Starc delivery. Followed by him, skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed cheaply for naught as he went after an outside off stump delivery. Also Read- Steve O’Keefe’s six-wicket haul hands Australia advantage

There was a 50 runs partnership between Rahane (13) and KL Rahul (68).  However, the partnership didn’t last long as O’Keefe bamboozled India. O’Keefe took six wickets and Nathan Lyon took one wicket, as a result, India lost their last seven wickets for just 11 runs.

With 155 runs lead, Australia began their second innings and lost both of the openers –David Warner for 10 and Shaun Marsh for a duck. However, Captain Steve Smith salvaged the innings after he was dropped thrice in the innings. The dropped catch proved costly as Smith went on to score his 20th Test half-century. He ended the day on 57 not out.

Australia ended the day two with 143 for 4 on board and 298 runs lead. So on day three Australia will be looking to set a massive target for India.

India in the last six series has not faced any such crumbling situations, but this unprecedented situation has put India under tremendous pressure. Also Check- India vs Australia 1st Test Day 2- As it Happened

The body language of Indian fielders was not positive. On Day-three, the Indian team will have to bowl out Australia as soon as possible to bring back themselves in the match. Otherwise, it looks like India’s 19-match unbeaten string will come to an end in Pune. They way Australia put India under pressure; it is evident that India has taken the visitors lightly. In 2013, Australia has lost all four matches to India.

A victory in the first match of the four-Test series will give Australia a psychological advantage which will help them to dominate India in rest of the series.
