On day four, Cheteshwar Pujara slammed a fabulous double-hundred as he stitched a fine partnership of 199 runs for the seventh wicket with Wriddhiman Saha. The wicket-keeper batsman was equally good as he registered his third Test ton. The partnership came at a time for India when the hosts were looking to cut down the deficit.
The mammoth stand eventually handed India a lead. Once Pujara and Saha departed in pursuit of some quick runs, Ravindra Jadeja scored a quick-fire 54 off just 55 balls to take India past 600. Australia had to bat for eight overs on day three and those were enough for Jadeja to scalp David Warner and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon. Both the batsmen were bowled as home team took full control of the match.
India have runs under their belt and the pressure will be on Australian batsmen. Renshaw and Smith, Australia’s two best batsmen this series, have once again a tough task at their hands. The pitch is expected to spin heavily with rough patches on the pitch coming into the play. It will be a tough job for Australian batsmen to survive on day five pitch. But given how Smith and Renshaw have batted this series, Australia will be looking forward to a fine performance from the duo once again.
