India vs England 2014, Live Cricket Score, 3rd Test, Day 3: India 323/8 after 102 overs

(India takes on England in the 3rd Test match in India’s Tour of England at  Southampton. Catch all the Live Score Updates and Live Cricket Action here.)

India end the day at 323/8, a score that would seem enough at the end of the day until you take a glance at the number of wickets fallen. What is even more disappointing is the fact that half of these wickets have been literally thrown away by the Indian  Batsmen. They now lay is sharp danger of falling into the trap of Following on, something that can prove very dangerous for them later on in the match.

India 291/6 after 95 overs. MS Dhoni 35*, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 7*.

Yet again the Indian team has thrown away a wicket just when they seem set to recover with a good partnership. It has become the theme of their batting in this innings. All the batsmen have got a start but none of them converted that into a big one.

India 258/6 after 86 overs. MS Dhoni 22*, Ravindra Jadeja 22*.

India once again, as has been the story of the day has lost a wicket at regular interval from the last one. This partnership is once again looking good like the last 6 but India would only hope that this one continues on for at least the rest of the day.

India 214/5 after 68 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 52*, MS Dhoni 2*.

Once again just when it looked that India are moving towards a comfortable position, the Indian batsmen have thrown their wickets away, the batsmen guilty this time happens to be Rohit Sharma. India is in desperate need of a good partnership now and if the remaining batsmen fail to provide that, the game will be as good as over for them.

India 204/4 after 63 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 50*, Rohit Sharma 22*.

Things are looking bright moving forward for the Indians as Rahane and Sharma have now settled down and are scoring at a brisk pace too. They are nearing the 200 mark, and are steadily moving towards the follow on target. They just need to continue to good work that they have done so far in this session and accumulate as many as possible before the new ball is taken.

India 175/4 after 57 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 37*, Rohit Sharma 10*.

The proceedings have gone a bit smooth after the fall of the Kohli wicket, but But India are still under a lot of deficit. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane are both capable of playing the long innings and if they manage to score a big one here, they will have secured their name in the team for quite some time to come.

India 156/4 after 52 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 26*, Rohit Sharma 7*.

After losing another wicket at arguably the most important time in the match and arguably the most important batsmen in the team, India are in a very miserable position here in Southampton after giving away too many runs on the first 2 days of the test. Virat Kohli once again failed to capitalize on a great start and the fingers that were raised against him will only get more company from here onwards.

India 136/4 after 48 overs. Ajinkya Rahane 18*, Rohit Sharma 0*.

Virat Kohli was dropped in that previous over by Alastair Cook in the slips, this could have proved to be rather inauspicious for the English team. But Anderson once again fauxed the Indian ace in his next over and this time around Cook made no mistake and pounced on the chance that was provided to him by Kohli.

India 129/3 after 45 overs. Virat Kohli 32*, Ajinkya Rahane 18*

India has got off to a more than decent start this session with both the batsmen looking in good touch. They need to continue with the good work and get the Indian total as close as they can to the English total.

India 108/3 after 40 overs. Virat Kohli 18*, Ajinkya Rahane 11*

India scored 83 important runs in that session but also lost 2 of their most important batsmen. It has been a mixed session for both teams, but England will be the one which will be on the happier side from them. It all now depends on the middle order and the lower Middle order to take the team out of trouble from here on-wards.

India 104/3 after 36 overs. Virat Kohli 17*, Ajinkya Rahane 8*

India has been scoring at a pretty decent rate this morning and even though they have lost a couple of wickets have fallen, the scoreboard has moved along well. All India need is a good partnership of about a 100 or more from their remaining batsmen and that should do it for the Indians to be in a comfortable position.

India 88/3 after 31 overs. Virat Kohli 10*, Ajinkya Rahane 0*

India has lost yet another important wicket in this first session of play here on day 3. Murali Vijay, by far their best batsmen this tour has been dismissed credit to some great bowling by Stuart Broad. This is not looking good for the Indians, but this is not yet the time to panic as they still have batsmen in their tank.

India 61/2 after 26 overs. Murali Vijay 22*, Virat Kohli 1*

India is looking in some bother here as they have lost yet another wicket, this time the ever dependable Cheteshwar Pujara. With the rest of the Batting line up with the Exception of Ajinkya Rahane being in wobbly form, signs don’t look too promising for the Indian team.

India 45/1 after 21 overs. Murali Vijay 11*, Cheteshwar Pujara 24*.

This has been a decent start so far for the Indians this morning. Although the scoring rate isn’t all that great, a bit of consolidation in the morning will mean that the batsmen can consolidate once the ball is older. Two of India’s best batsmen are on the crease right now and England will be very well vary of their capabilities.

India have been set a huge target by the English batsmen and it will be a monumental task for the Indians to chase that huge a total. At the moment, the only result that seems possible here is an English victory but if India gets anywhere near the English total, then the Match will be moving towards a draw.

India aims at extending their lead after a historic win at Lord’s against England and winning a Test Match at Lord’s after 28 long years. The star of the match was the unlikely hero, Ishant Sharma, who bowled his career best 7 wickets for 74 runs as he tore through the England batting.

When India was in their backyard the last time around, the English team played all over the Indians and managed to pull off a whitewash, a result that the Indian team suffered in 2 successive overseas series. It is pretty evident that things have changed considerably in the past three years, and the Indian team that is touring the British Isles this time around seems to be a lot more comfortable against pace, bounce and swing than the team that toured the last time around.

India come into this game after their historic win the Lords test. They are on an all time high as the new blood of Indian cricket has taken the responsibility that was handed to them by the fabulous four. They delivered a thumping win amidst all the controversy and showed the world that they are capable of performing in adverse conditions as well.

This match at Southampton is important in the context of this series as one false move by both the teams can result in a loss or a step backwards from a series victory. India are the prime favorites going into this game, but England themselves would be looking to grasp every opportunity that they will get to deliver a revenge victory.
