India vs England 2014, Live Cricket Score: England 219/6 after 86 overs

(India takes on England in the 2nd Test match in India’s Tour of England at Lords. Catch all the Live Score Updates and Live Cricket Action here.)

England 219/6 after 86 overs, Matt Prior 2*, Liam Plunkett 4*

India did manage to pick up the two set batsmen in this last half an hour but the game is still slightly in the favour of the English team since they still have a couple of specialist batsmen in their armoury and the likes of Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson, who are no mug with the bat either. England will be rather happy with the last session except the end because they scored quickly and added some much needed runs. Story of the day was Gary Ballance, who got his 2nd test century.

England 191/4 after 75 overs,  Gary Ballance 94*, Moeen Ali 27*

England has come back strongly in this last session just like the India team did yesterday. they have been scoring at a pretty brisk rate and both the batsmen have looked in rather ominous form for the Indians. There is no help whatsoever for the Indian bowlers here anymore and Dhoni can’t seem to do a thing about it. India desperately needs a wicket here, looking forward to who can provide it.

England 125/4 after 53 overs,  Gary Ballance 51*, Moeen Ali 6*

Looking for the lady luck to shine once gain, perhaps in the form of yet another wicket, India did take last few minutes pretty seriously. Alas, the wicket column on the scorecard did not show any change as England stood steady at 125/4 at tea.

England 120/4 after 50 overs,  Gary Ballance 48*, Moeen Ali 4*

India has managed to pick one more wicket, although a bit lucky one. Root was looking good but played slightly down the wrong line and payed the price for it. It seems like the batting line up keeps expanding for the English squad. although you can say that the Indian team are slightly ahead at this point of time.

England 111/3 after 44 overs,  Gary Ballance 45*, Joe Root 11*

India have missed yet another chance in the field as the ball that took the edge of Ballance’s bat flew between the keeper and the first slip on the bowling of Binny. Ballance looks well set now, and Joe Root, the centurion from last match is also on the crease grinding it out. Looks like its going to be a struggle for the bowlers.

England 91/3 after 38 overs,  Gary Ballance 32*, Joe Root 4*

Bhuvaneshwar has yet again struck at the very moment when India required it the most. The scoring though has picked up considerably in the second session and India’s most consistent bowlers so far also seems to be tired after the prolonged spells that he has bowled so far. England does seem in sort of trouble, but one should not forget about their batting lineup and the job the tail did in the last game.

England 68/2 after 30 overs,  Gary Ballance 15*, Ian Bell 16*

England have started off well in the second session losing no wickets in the first half hour of play. Indian bowler have picked up the 2 wickets at the start, but they are yet to produce the movement that the English bowlers got on day 1. Bell and Ballance look set for a big one here and India will have to break this partnership if they plan on getting anywhere in this match.

England 51/2 after 24 overs,  Gary Ballance 7*, Ian Bell 11*

The English batsmen have gone into lunch with 2 of their middle order batsmen well set and looking good to take the score forward and develop it into a big one. although they did suffer a couple of early scares due to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar’s consistent line, they have now seen off the new ball and the batting should only get easier from here onwards.

England 46/2 after 22 overs,  Gary Ballance 4*, Ian Bell 10*

Indian Bowlers have tried hard to so far in this first session of play but both the seamers except Bhuvaneshwar kumar have not been able to pitch the ball in the right areas. The scoring for England have got up slightly since the removal of Bhuvi from the bowling who bowled a long spell of 10 overs, picking up 2 wickets. Gary Ballance and Ian Bell have looked good on the crease so far and would look to continue the good work.

England 31/2 after 16 overs,  Gary Ballance 2*, Ian Bell 0*

Bhuvanesh Kumar has been the only bowler who has looked like picking up a wicket as he has been mostly bowling a fuller length and allowing the ball to seam and swing. He has picked the wickets of both the openers and England as of now look in a bit of trouble. But England has a long batting lineup and a score of 295 is not that big on a wicket that getting better with time. With the likes of Ian Bell and Moeen Ali still in the ranks, Indian bowlers still have a long way to go in this test.

England 24/1 after 11 overs,  Sam Robson 12*, Gary Ballance 2*

It’s been a mixed bag for the Indians so far as they have picked up the all important wicket of Alastair Cook but have also dropped Sam Robson in the slips, a chance that was quite simple by International standards. The bowlers have been pretty decent for the Indians so far but they have failed to extract movement from the pitch that the English bowlers did on day 1.

England 7/0 after 6 overs, Alatair Cook 5*, Sam Robson 2*

England have got off to a slow but assured start as Alastair Cook and Sam Robson have played the balls so far to their merit. the Indian opening bowlers have not been able to move the ball as the English bowlers did early on yesterday. England would expect their captain to continue playing the way he has so far and set the tone for a good score in the first innings.

India 295/10 after 91.4 overs

India have managed to add only 5 runs to their over night score of 290 before being bowled out for a score of 295. it’s a very good score considering the fact that they were 7 down for 145 and they have managed to double up the score for a matter of three tail end wickets.

When India was in their backyard the last time around, the English team played all over the Indians and managed to pull off a whitewash, a result that the Indian team suffered in 2 successive oversea’s series. It is pretty evident that things have changed considerably in the past three years, and the Indian team that is touring the British Isles this time around seems to be a lot more comfortable against pace, bounce and swing than the team that toured the last time around.

India will come into this game with a slight advantage over the host;s as they outperformed tham convincingly with bat and ball in the first test if you exclude the last wicket stand between james Anderson and Joe Root. The match will begin with the clouds of uncertainity of recent spat between Anderson and Jadeja and the pending decision of the same.

India has only won one test on this venue and their main aim would be to replicate the performance of Kapil Dev’s team and get off the mark in this series. They nearly had the host’s in their grab but as he has done on so many occassions, Dhoni just couldn’t manage to hold on the advantage that the team had built. Signs are looking promising for the indian team and the test might just prove to be the start of a good series for the Indian team.
