On Day-One debutante Keaton Jennings notched up his first Test career hundred and became one of the rare breeds of batsmen who scored hundred in their debut match. Keaton is the 103rd batsman who scored hundred on his debut Test. The South Africa-born southpaw replaced another injured young opener Haseeb Hameed, who impressed everyone with his technique and shot selection, to pair up with Captain Alastair Cook. Keaton scored 112 off 219 balls. Like Keaton his captain Cook also scored hundred in his debut Test against India in 2006.

Jennings, the son of former South African coach Ray Jennings, built a 99-run partnership with Cook before Indian tweaker Ravindra Jadeja’s absolute ripper pierced through Cook’s (46) defense and wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel did a brilliant job removing the bail. But England did an awesome job batting first capitalizing on Jennings’ hundred England ended the day one on 288 for 5. Besides’ Jennings’ hundred Moeen Ali scored 50. However, India ended the day one on a positive note as Ravichandran Ashwin’s slowly drifting delivery gave India the wicket of dangerous Root, who settled down at the crease but Ashwin’s delivery left him stunned.

Ashwin,India’s main prodigy, drew the blood in the last session and brought back India into the match picking up four wickets which put the day one on balance. Ashwin ended the day with four wickets for 75-run in 30 overs.

All-rounder Ben Stokes(25) and wicket-keeper Jos Buttler (18) will commence the day two.

Meanwhile, Indian middle order batsman Karun Nair made his Test debut and KL Rahul came back to the team as an opener along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who replaced Mohammad Shami. Shami, who played a crucial role in the last three-Test,  was given rest due to a sore knee.

On the second day morning, the Wankhede pitch will be quick as a result the ball will skid which is ominous for England as well as for India because the hosts will get the opportunity to bat after tea. All will depend whether Indian bowlers manage to clean up the England middle order and tail-ender as soon as possible or not.
