India drew the second and final Test as New Zealand clinched the series 1-0 at the Basin Reserve here Tuesday. Chasing a target of 435, India finished at 166/3 with Virat Kohli scoring an unbeaten 105 and Rohit Sharma 31 not out.
India finish the tour of New Zealand without winning a single match, either Test or One-Day Internationals (ODI). They had lost the ODI series 0-4. On the final day of the second and final Test, first the inevitable happened in the morning as New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum completed his triple ton and gave India an impossible target of 435 runs in the remaining 67 overs. But Indian openers crumbled and at one stage India were reeling at 55 for three.
But then Virat Kohli scored a magnificent century and stitched an unbeaten 112-run stand with Rohit Sharma for the fourth wicket before both the teams decided to end the match in a draw. It means India’s poor overseas performance continues as they lost the two-match series 0-1. IANS
