Hardik Pandya once again justified his comparison to cricketing legend Kapil Dev after he bagged his 30th ODI wicket of 2017.
New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya once again justified his comparison to cricketing legend Kapil Dev after he bagged his 30th One Day International (ODI) wicket of 2017 in the third ODI against Sri Lanka and equaled the former skipper’s record, of scoring 500-plus runs and 30-plus wickets in one day international in a calendar year which was set in the year 1986.
Pandya, who has been looked as Dev’s natural successor since he made his Team India’s debut against New Zealand last year, finished 2017 with 31 ODI wickets with a best of 3/40 in his 29 appearances. Pandya proved his talent with the bat as well by scoring 557 runs with a career best of 83 against Australia.
On the other hand, Kapil, 31 years ago, scored 517 runs and picked 32 wickets in 27 ODIs. His best knock was 58, while the best bowling figures read 4/30.
In the final match of the series against Sri Lanka Pandya finished with figures of 2/49 in 10 overs, however, the 24-year old didn’t come out to bat as India won the game comfortably by 8 wickets to clinch the three-match series.
