Sri Lanka need another 246 runs to avoid the follow-on with former skipper Angelo Mathews batting on 54. Scoring at a steady pace, the hosts reached 100 in the 25th over. Post that, Tharanga was run-out as his bat was found hanging in the air and Mukund sitting at silly point showed his presence of mind to hit the stumps dismissing the batsman.

Mukund’s sharp reflexes helped India get another wicket as he held on to a fine catch at silly point again to give Ashwin his first wicket of the match, Niroshan Dickwella. Dickwella was out for 8 runs.

    And its over. Day 3 ends. India end the 3rd day on 188/3.
    Its been a long day especially for the Lankan bowlers. After rain halted the play for some time, Virat Kohli and Abhinav Mukund have put India on the driving seat.
    However, Mukund was unlucky to get out in the last ball of the 3rd day. Two full days of play is left and India clearly hold an edge over the Lankans.

    It seems Virat Kohli thinks this is an ODI match. he has now raced to 35 runs in 32 balls. Mukund is also playing well after a disappointing first innings. Nuwan Pradeep has been expensive for the Lankans. Kohli-Mukund now have a 51-run partnership between them.
