IPL 2014, CSK vs MI: Mumbai Indians smash 173 runs against Chennai Super Kings

Mumbai Indians after a solid opening partnership lost their way towards the end and manage to score 173 MI openers Lendl Simmons and Michael Hussey started cautiously in first four overs and then took on the bowlers to lay a solid foundation once again. Both openers opened their arms and went on to play big shots. The opening stand lasted for 9.4 overs and scored 76 runs. Hussey (39) was the first of the openers to be dismissed when Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery hit his stumps.

Corey Anderson the hero of MI’s last match looked to attack right from the ball one he faced and smashed Jadeja and Raina for 6s. He looked good during his stay but a top edge from his bat off Ravi Ashwin went to Ishwar Pandey inside the boundary and MI were 99-2 inside 13 overs.

Simmons continued to fight from one end as he went past his 3rd half-century of this season, but Jadeja (2-31) had him caught and thus
ended his stay in the middle. He scored 67 off 44 balls, hitting five 4s and four 6s. Soon after his dismissal Rohit Sharma (20) too
departed leaving MI 150-4 in 17.3 overs.

Kieron Pollard (14) smashed Ashish Nehra (2-34) for a four and six but the left-arm pacer came back strong to have him caught. Next ball Aditya Tare hit straight to fielder for a first ball duck. Mohit Sharma (3-42) bowled the last over and picked two wickets but a
last ball six from Harbhajan Singh’s bat took MI to 173-8 in 20 overs.
