IPL 2014, KKR vs RR: Smith and Watson steal the match for the Royals in the Super over

Chasing a target of 153, the start by the Knight riders showed promise just seeing the fact that their captain has managed to score on the very first ball of the innings and was looking comfortable. Though Gambhir looked settled at the crease after a long period of time, his partner Manvinder Bisla who was playing his first match of the season was dismissed rather quickly.

Jacques Kallis also seemed to struggle as he could only manage 13 runs of the 17 deliveries he faced. It was only after the arrival of Manish Pandey that the innings got some much needed momentum. Pandey took on the  star of the bowling attack for the Royals, Pravin Tambe and hit him for a four and a six of consecutive deliveries. Although he was dismissed of the very next delivery by tambe, he had done his job of providing the innings with the momentum and purpose it was craving for.

The main positive for the Knight riders from this game would be the return in form of captain Gautam Gambhir, who scored a well compiled 45 runs and held the innings up to the 14th over.

The innings that took the match to the wire was played by youngster Surya Kumar Yadav, who played a blinder and scored 31 runs of just 19 deliveries when the team needed it the most. He was ably supported by Shakib Al Hasan and they together took the game out of the hands of the Royals as Knight riders now only needed 16 of the last 2 overs with Yadav and Shakib going strong.

However there was a final twist in the tail as James Faulkner returned with a magical over in which he gave away only 4 runs and picked up 3 important wickets of Yadav, Robin Utthappa and Vinay Kumar. Kolkata needed 12 runs of the last over with Shakib still playing. He Struck a boundary of the very first ball and released the nerves of the Knight riders fans, but Chawla was run out of the second delivery.

KKR needed 5 of the last three deliveries and could manage only 4 as the last ball was scored for a brace when they needed 3 to win. This is the second Tie played between the two teams.

Kolkata batted first in the super overs and owing to the six scored by Manish Pandey of the 4th ball by James Faulkner, they managed a total of 11/2 in the allotted 6 deliveries. Surya Kumar Yadav and Shakib Al Hasan were the other 2 batsman, both of them were run out of the first and the last delivery of the over respectively.

Rajasthan Royals managed to outsmart the Knight riders though as they scampered their way to 11 runs in their alloted 6 deliveries, which were bowled by Sunil Narine. Requiring 3 of the final delivery Steve Smith Nudged the ball towards deep extra covers as the batsmen scampered their way for a brace and registered the win on terms of more boundary hit during the duration of the match.

Result: Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the Super Over.
