IPL 2014, KXIP vs RCB: Unbowed Kings XI Punjab beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets

Kings XI Punjab’s clinical performance helped them beat Royal Challengers by five wickets and stay table toppers. Chasing 125 KXIP were curtailed to 40-3 in 7.1 overs, but rescue act by Virender Sehwag and David Miller made sure KXIP keep winning momentum going.

After losing Cheteshwar Pujara (10), Wriddhiman Saha (2) and danger man Glen Maxwell (6) early KXIP fought their way back courtesy sensible innings of 32 by Virender Sehwag. David Miller partnered Sehwag and notched up 45 runs for the 4th wicket. Both Sehwag and Miller (26) fell in the same over to Yuzvendra Chahal and looked like KXIP may lose the momentum.

Captain George Bailey (16) and Rishi Dhawan (23) then carried the good work and with an unbeaten 39 run stand saw KXIP home.

With minimum total to defend RCB bowlers did well to pick regular wickets, Varun Aaron and Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets each while Ashok Dinda chipped in with one wicket.

Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore after sentin to bat first managed only 124 in 20 overs. RCB lost four quick wickets and there after a 41 run stand between Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers helped stable things. Once de Villiers departed RCB could not bounce back, with Albie Morkel and Yuvraj falling soon after.

Sandeep Sharma who dismissed Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli in one over finished with figures of 3-15. Mitchell Johnson and Rishi Dhawan bagged two wickets each.

With this win Kings XI Punjab remain unbeaten while Royal Challengers Bangalore now has lost three matches on trot.
