Delhi Daredevils will face Chennai Super Kings on the Monday evening knowing that they have been beaten by the Super Kings in 4 attempts since their last victory over Dhoni’s men. Chennai’s start to the tournament has been disappointing, as they lost even after posting a huge target of 206 in front of the Kings XI. Delhi on the other hand started off in an equally disappointing manner but they have managed to pull up their socks by registering their first win after 7 consecutive defeats in the IPL. The Monday clash will be important for the team, as both of them would be looking to gain an upper hand in the opening stages of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings
X Factor: The opening batsmen of the CSK can pose serious threats for any opposition team as they did against the KXIP. Brendon McCullum has been in terrific form for the past year or so, while Dwayne Smith is the sort of batsmen who always performs at his best in the shorter format, especially the IPL.
Watch out for: Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja.
Suresh Raina didn’t get a huge opportunity to shine in the first game, but if he gets the chance he can prove exactly why he is highly recommended in the IPL. He is one of the best players the IPL has seen and has scored the most number of runs. Ravindra Jadeja on the other hand went for too many against KXIP, but his figures doesn’t show the fact that he had both Maxwell and Miller dropped of his Bowling and was also denied of a plum LBW which would have again accounted for Maxwell’s wicket. He can contribute in all the departments and is one of the key players for the CSK.
Weak Point: The bowling is a major concern for the Super Kings. All the front line bowlers except Ashish Nehra went for more than 10 RPO against the Kings XI. Also the injury to Dwayne Bravo will be another major concern for them and will ruin the balance of the team as well.
X Factor: The Delhi Daredevils middle order fired all guns in the last game. The return in form of stand in Captain Dinesh Karthik is a big positive for the Delhi team.
Watch out for: JP Duminy, Mayank Agarwal.
JP Duminy has now played two outstanding innings in a row. The left hander has always been one of the most talented and reliable players in the shorter format. Dinesh Karthik said after the previous game that he is the key to their batting line up and given his performance in the last two games, that’s something that is pretty obvious now. Mayank Agarwal showed shades of form in the match against KKR. The young right hander is a treat to watch when he gets going and he has the capability to clear any boundary in the world. If he gets back into form, the Delhi team will have very little to worry about.
Weak Point: The bowling towards the end of the innings and the form of Murali Vijay is a major concern for the Daredevils. They start off well with the ball but tend to miss their mark as the game progresses. Murali Vijay is the only Indian batsman to have scored 2 centuries in the IPL, but his current form doesn’t look very promising for the Daredevils.
