IPL 2014, Qualifier 2, KXIP vs CSK: Kings XI Punjab set a target of 227 runs for Chennai Super Kings courtesy Virender Sehwag's century

Put to bat first Kings XI Punjab thanks to blistering century by Virender Sehwag posted an Everest total of 226 on board. Openers Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra powered KXIP to a stupendous start and milked CSK bowlers all over the place. In first three overs
Sehwag and Vohra started cautiously and scored 19 runs, but Ishwar Pandey gave them the opening they wanted as 24 runs came off his over.

The duo then did not look back and went on rampage. At the end of fielding restrictions KXIP raced to 70-0. Sehwag looked in his flow as he scored his fifty off just 21 balls. He butchered the bowlers and was supported well by Vohra. In 11th over CSK got a breakthrough when Vohra (34) looking to smash Pandey’s short ball was caught at mid-wicket. The mammoth opening stand lasted for 10.4 overs and scored 110 runs.

Vohra’s dismissal did not bothered Sehwag much as he continued to in his sublime fashion. Glenn Maxwell hit a six and a four in his short stay before Suresh Raina caught him off Ravi Ashwin for a 6-ball 13. After Maxwell’s dismissal KXIP were 148-2 in 13 overs.
KXIP were set for a final onslaught as Sehwag was approaching his 2nd IPL ton. David Miller played perfect partner to Sehwag and he too joined the act fast to demolish the bowling attack.

Sehwag was in no mood to bog down as he brought his century off just 50 balls. He played a blistering knock and kept KXIP going. Sehwag then lost his wicket in 18th over when he tried to go for full-monty, but FAF du Plessis took a good catch to dismiss him for 122 off 58 balls. He smashed 12 4s and eight 6s during his monstrous knock and took KXIP past 200. Captain George Bailey (1) was cleaned up on last ball of 18th over and KXIP were 218-4.

Miller scored 19-ball 38 runs before he was run out in last over. Wriddhiman Saha (6) too fell to Mohit Sharma and KXIP at the end of 20 overs scored on 226-6. Ashish Nehra (2-51) picked two wickets while Mohit Sharma, Ishwar Pandey and Ravi Ashwin managed to pick one wicket each.
