IPL 2014, RCB vs CSK: Royal Challengers Bangalore restrict Chennai Super Kings to 138

Royal Challengers Bangalore restrict Chennai Super Kings to 138

Chennai Super Kings batting first were curtailed to 138-4 on a wicket which MS Dhoni believes will slow down later. Dwayne Smith and Brendon started off in their typical fashion but soon Varun Aaron in his 2nd over removed both the openers. McCullum (19) was the first one to go and then Smith (9) was caught at extra cover leaving CSK 29-2 inside five overs.

David Hussey who replaced FAF du Plessis for this game joined Suresh Raina in the middle. The duo kept scoreboard ticking and formed a 75 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Both batsmen looked good with the choice of shots and cleared boundary ropes at times. Muttiah Muralitharan then in his last over broke the stand when he had Hussey (25) caught in the deep.

Captain MS Dhoni (7) came out to bat but he did not lasted too long as Chris Gayle held onto a good catch at point off Abu Nechim to see CSK reeling at 117-4 after 17 overs. Raina in the meantime completed his 20th IPL fifty off 35 balls. Mitchell Starc and Abu Nechim bowled superbly in death overs and made it tough for Raina and Ravindra Jadeja to score. RCB bowlers held onto their line and in last five overs gave away only 31 runs. Raina finished unbeaten on 62 off 48 balls. CSK then finished on 138-4 in 20 overs.

Varun Aaron (2-29) picked two wickets while Muralitharan (1-29) and Abu Nechim (1-18) settled with one wicket each.
