IPL 2014, RCB vs DD: Yuvraj Singh’s blistering hitting leads RCB to a much needed victory

Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Delhi daredevils in another exciting match at the M. Chinnaswamy in Bangalore. The win was aided by the blistering innings of Yuvraj Singh which was decorated with 9 huge sixes and a solitary 4 just for the sake of it.

Royal challengers Bangalore got off to a perfect start after they put up a challenging total on the board after the Yuvraj Storm at the M. Chinnaswamy. First Muttiah Muralitharan got rid of Murli Vijay in his very first over and then Mitchell Starc rattled the stumps to dismiss Quinton De Kock in the very next over.

After this though Mayank Agarwal (31) and Kevin Pietersen (33) steadied the innings and gave signs of pushing towards another exciting finish for the second match in a row. Together they added a total of 63 runs for the third wicket in just 44 deliveries before Agarwal was caught at Long Off on the bowling of Abu Nechim. Kevin Pietersen though looked in good touch in the middle and played some very impressive Pietersen like strokes.

JP Duminy(48) walked out early in the 10th over after the fall of Agarwal’s wicket and till the time he was there in the middle he looked like bringing about the repeat of the RR chase along with Kedar Jadhav(37), who walked in to bat after the fall of Kevin Pietersen’s wicket in the 12th over. At the end of the 16th over Delhi needed 64 runs off the last 4 overs, eerily similar to the encounter between RCB and RR.

Abu Nechim bowled the next over and gave away 19 runs in it as Duminy and Jadhav got stuck into him and hit him for a six and 2 boundaries in the over. The result though was settled in the next over when Mitchell Starc once again disturbed the timber to dismiss the dangerous Duminy.

The Daredevils ultimately ended up 16 runs short and the late flurry by Kedar Jadhav also couldn’t take them to the victory. This is their 8th defeat in 9 matches and they are almost out of the tournament. The Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their 4th victory here and they need to continue winning in order to qualify for the Eliminators.

Earlier, Yuvraj Singh destroyed yet another bowling attack in the IPL and hit no less than 9 sixes to power the Challengers to a fighting total of 186, a score that looked highly unlikely a couple of over earlier. The game changer though happened to be the last over when he struck Rahul Shukla for 27 runs including 4 sixes.

Result: RCB won by 16 runs

Man of the Match: Yuvraj Singh.
