DD vs CSK, IPL 2014: Good bowling and extraordinary fielding grants Chennai their first win

The target of 178 didn’t look as imposing at the end of the first innings as it did once the second innings started to come into effect. The CSK team made the daredevils work hard for each and every runs as they bowled terrific line and lengths and also fielded like the best fielding unit in the tournament.

The chase itself never took of as Mayank Agarwal was dismissed in the third over owing to a terrific catch by Suresh Raina just out side the circle at covers. If that was a great catch, it was only bettered a notch by Faf Du Plessis in the Dismissal of Murli Vijay and just 2 overs later he one upped himself when he took another stunner to dismiss Manoj Tiwary.

The Bowlers themselves started rather well as they didn’t bowl ,anything that was easy to put away. Ishwar Pandey, Ben Hilfenhaus and Mohit Sharma didn’t allow the Delhi top order to get away with easy runs. Ishwar pandey in particular was very impressive as he bowled his quota of 4 overs on the trot and picked up the wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Tiwary. The spinners also played their part, as both Ashwin and Jadeja ended up with 2 wickets each.

The batting for the daredevils was very disappointing, although at times it seemed like they had some sort of momentum building their way, but they kept losing wickets at crucial points. Captain Dinesh Karthik, JP Duminy and James Neesham all got off to to starts but none of them were able to convert it into a substantial innings.

Earlier, CSK captain MS Dhoni had won the toss and elected to bat fast. With the help of a brisk half century by Suresh Raina and some lusty hitting towards the end, the Super Kings managed to post a good total of 177 on the board.

Result: Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs.

Man of the Match: Suresh Raina.
