The tournament will be spread over 47 days across 10 venues. The schedule has been designed with each team playing 14 matches – seven of them at home venues. Last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final.

This will be the second year, which will have no Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals as both teams are serving suspension over spot-fixing charges. The suspended teams were replaced by Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions.
