Juventus will clash with AC Milan in the Italian SuperCoppa 2016 match in Qatar this Friday night, 23 December 2016 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. It’s a massive game in Italian football between the two usual heavyweights.
The last time these two competed for a Coppa Italia final, was back in 1990 when Juventus won the cup with a narrow 1-0 win. Milan has not won this competition since 2003 and they will be desperate to finish off their season on a high to upset the odds and beat Juventus who just won their fifth consecutive league title.
This game won’t be part of Serie A but it’s that one off SuperCoppa Italian match which takes place every year in some foreign country. This match comes at a good time for Juventus, who have just made a crucial step towards what would be their sixth successive Serie A trophy by defeating AS Roma 1-0, and with that win, Juventus added to their advantage at the league summit to seven points.
Juventus outmatched Roma in the first half an hour and that proved to be the deciding factor. The Giallorossi tried to react and played much better in the second half, putting on a siege in the final stages of the game, but the defence stood tall and allowed good chances only on set pieces.
On the other hand, Milan will be hoping to reverse some rough recent history against Juve. The Old Lady beat the San Siro side in last year’s Coppa Italia final thanks to an Alvaro Morata goal in extra time. Also, Milan’s preparations for the match have already been interrupted. The squad’s flight to Dohar was cancelled, making them late by a day, according to Daniella Matar of the Associated Press (h/t MailOnline).
Juventus: Miralem Pjanic has declared himself fit for the AC Milan match, whereas Andrea Barzagli and Marko Pjaca have also joined the squad. Though, the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Daniel Alves and Rolando Mandragora continue to miss out through injury.
AC Milan: Davide Calabria and Riccardo Montolivo continue to miss out, but there are no fresh injury worries for head coach Vincenzo Montella.
