Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians, IPL 2014 Preview: Can MI topple KXIP again?

Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians

Kings XI Punjab will face the Mumbai Indians in their first true home game of the season at the Punjab Cricket association stadium in Mohali. The two teams have had very different stories so far in the tournament and even though Mumbai Indians have won their only encounter against the Kings XI in the tournament, one feels that that will be it as the Kings are in the middle of a dream run in the tournament. Even though Mumbai looks much more balanced and strong than they did in the UAE leg of the tournament, there is hardly any doubt that the Kings will emerge as the better team in the evening game at Mohali.

Kings XI Punjab

X Factor: Kings XI Punjab has only managed to lose 2 games out of 11 in the current edition of the IPL. They have been able to find new heroes every time they are in some sort of bother. From Maxwell to Miller to Vohra, all of the top order batsmen have clicked and that gives the batsmen in the side Full confidence to go in the middle and play their shots. They are the most dangerous batting lineup in the tournament and that in itself is enough to scare any opposition.

Watch Out For: Glenn Maxwell, David Miller.

The M & M duo failed in the last game against the spin of JP Duminy and Imran Tahir, but the duo likes it when the ball comes on the bat and if there is one pitch in India where the ball will surely come on the bat, it’s the Mohali pitch. Heralded as the greenest wicket in the country, the Max- Miller combo will be looking to blast their way through the slightly weakened bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians.

Weak Point: “COMPLACENCY”, we have said it again and again and it just about cost them the match in the last game against the Daredevils. The Kings XI players need to keep their mind together at the ending stages of the tournament, they have qualified for the Playoffs but that does not mean that the job is done. They need to hold their end as there is still a tournament to be won.

Mumbai Indians

X Factor: The Mumbai Indians looks a much better team than they did at the start of the tournament. They have managed to find the balance at the top of the order and the openers slot finally seems to have found the balance with the return of Hussey in the side. The batting looks settled and so does the bowling attack in the hands off Harbhajan and the spin triplet. They might have been knocked out already of the contender ship of the final four spot, but these are god signs for the future.

Watch Out For: Michael Hussey, Rohit Sharma.

Michael Hussey is regarded as mister cricket and he showed everyone exactly why he is given that title. He was out of the team due to apparent bad form and he came back in the best way possible. His return in form will provide the right balance that the team need. Rohit Sharma on the other hand showed exactly why he is regarded so highly in world cricket. He lived up to the role of the Finisher and game the team a good total to defend in the last game.

Weak Point: At the moment they look at every aspect of the game after their win in the last game, although bowling in the death came out to be a problem that the team might face, especially against the likes of batsmen that the Kings XI possess. The Mumbai Indians will have to cover that aspect of the game really well if they need to have any sort of chance whatsoever in the tournament.
