KKR vs DD, IPL 2014: Dinesh Karthik, JP Duminy guide Delhi to a 4 wicket victory

Delhi Daredevils registered their first victory in the 7th edition of the IPL when they defeated the Knight riders from Kolkata by 4 wickets. The Delhi batsmen showed their worth this time around and carried on a wonderfully constructed chase which did seem like being off track at times but thanks to a couple of wonderful innings by JP Duminy and Dinesh Karthik, the daredevils got home in the last over.

Chasing a total of 167, the daredevils got off to a disastrous start as opener Murali Vijay was run out in the very first over and was the third opener in the match to be dismissed for a duck. Mayank Agarwal shared a brisk partnership with Captain Dinesh Karthik and got the chase on the track with some innovative and brave hitting.

It was Skipper Dinesh Karthik though who played a wonderful innings and held the innings together along with JP Duminy. Duminy deserved all the props in the world as he played another great T20 innings as he guided the Daredevils out of a very tough situation after the dismissal of Dinesh Karthik and ultimately took them to their first victory. This was Duminy’s second successive half century in this addition of the IPL.

The Daredevils needed 32 of 3 overs with Morkel and Narine having 1 over each to bowl. In the 18th over bowled by Morne Morkel, JP Duminy struck him for 2 sixes and a boundary accumulating 21 runs in the process. Sunil Narine bowled a tidy 19th over, with DD requiring 6 to win of the last over. The drama didn’t seem to get over yet as Piyush Chawla dismissed Jimmy Neesham on the second delivery of the last over. But JP Duminy was not having any further delay in the victory as he struck Chawla for a six on the third ball of the last over to wrap up a thrilling victory for the Daredevils.

Earlier, KKR had managed to score 166 with the help of two really matured innings from Manish Pandey and Robin Utthapa. Gautam Gambhir once again disappointed with the bat as he was yet again dismissed for a duck. He now holds the record of most number of ducks by a player in the IPL.
