Kings XI Punjab defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs and won third game on trot. Chasing a challenging target of 194 SRH never looked in control of their innings. Shikhar Dhawan (1) was the first wicket to fell when Mitchell Johnson had him caught behind in the 2nd over.
After the early jolt David Warner (19) and Aaron Finch (8) tried to drag team out of trouble but they both fell to L. Balaji in one over leaving SRH tottering at 33-3 inside five overs.
SRH middle order could not stick around and fell apart cheaply adding just 62 runs for the loss of quick four wickets. L. Rahul the top scorer for Sunrisers with 27 runs was the only batsman to cross 20-run mark.
It was just a matter of time before L. Balaji and Dale Steyn cleaned up the tail and bundling SRH for 121 runs on board.
KXIP bowlers who had off-days in previous two games came back strong and emulated the batsmen. L. Balaji picked four wickets for 13 runs and now holds the purple cap. Mitchell Johnson and Akshar Patel scalped two wickets each while Sandeep Sharma and Rishi Dhawan settled with one wicket apiece.
Earlier after been put into bat first for the first time in this IPL, KXIP batsmen clubbed bowlers all over the park. Glenn Maxwell was once again star performer with the bat as the dashing right hander scored 95 runs off 43 balls with the help of which KXIP posted a huge score of 193 in 30 overs. Maxwell during his blazing knock earned himself an orange cap.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar for SRH was pick of the bowlers,clinching three wickets. Amit Mishra chipped in with two wickets.
With all-round performance, both orange and purple cap holders are from Kings XI Punjab side.
