Kings XI Punjab take on Chennai Super Kings in match 59 of IPL 2014. The penultimate match of the tournament will decide who faces Kolkata Knight Riders who defeated Kings XI Punjab in the 1st Qualifier and went straight to the final. Kings XI Punjab gets another shot at making it to the final because they finished the league stage of IPL 2014 at the top of the points table and Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator to get one last chance at making it to the final.

The contest may be called the 2nd Qualifier but it should have been the 2nd Eliminator as it is a must-win game for both teams and the winner goes on to take the field against Kolkata Knight Riders on 1st June 2014 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore for one last contest for the coveted IPL 2014 trophy.

Kings XI Punjab will be depending on Glenn Maxwell and David Miller to do the big hitting like they have for most of the tournament especially in the UAE leg which led KXIP to victory against CSK in the league matches.

Chennai Super Kings will not only be aiming to win the game to go on to the final but also to avenge the two league match losses to KXIP. Chennai needs to come up with an answer to Maxwell’s golden hammer that keeps knocking the ball into the crowd. Ravichandram Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been getting stomped on when faced with Glenn Maxwell.

Kings XI Punjab will be hoping for a more destructive performance from their batsmen as compared to the lukewarm shots that they played against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 1st Qualifer. Having lost that game, KXIP is under pressure to win this game or become the team that should have won the cup but choked in the final stages of the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings has displayed a fine batting performance this tournament with Dwayne Smith, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni proving to be a test that most bowlers have been failing against. They will be confident coming into this game after they outclassed Mumbai Indians.
