Manchester City beat West Ham 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to win the English Premier League on the final day of the season. Going into the game two points ahead of Liverpool, City just needed a point to win the crown, but Manuel Pellegrini had other ideas as the Manchester club rode on two goals scored by Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany to win in style. Manchester City were twitching against a reluctant West Ham, but picked up their gear to go out for a victory as Nasri scored an excellent goal close to the 40th minute. A wonderful strike from the Frenchman, who swung his effort inside the far post from 25 yards out. Manuel Pellegrini’s first league title in a decade in Europe was close but they still had the game to finish. City continued to dominate West Ham throughout the game and confirmed their second trophy of the season through a Captain’s goal. Kompany smashed the ball home as the corner pin-balled around the box.

Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool meanwhile, came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1, but it meant nothing as Manchester City easily closed out victory, leading to emotional scenes as fans streamed on to the pitch in Manchester.
