Manchester City who were in search for a revenge meet after last year’s embarrassment put in a very lethargic performance on March 9. City failed to break Wigan’s solid defence and only managed one goal from a Samir Nasri effort outside the box. Wigan won a penalty around the 26th minute as Martin Demichelis brought down Marc-Antoine Fortune with a clumsy tackle. Jordi Gomez who emerged from FC Barcelona’s youth ranks converted the penalty kick to make it 1-0.

Manchester City who lifted the Capital One Cup last week have to over-turn a 2-0 deficit against FC Barcelona on March 13 to prove a point in this year’s edition of the Champions League and have three games in hand to keep the pace on EPL table-toppers Chelsea.
