Manchester City won 3-1  against relegation battlers West Brom to keep the heat on title rivals Liverpool and Chelsea. But an injury to David Silva deals a big blow to Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

City began the scoring inside only three minutes when Pablo Zabaleta threw himself at the ball after Ben Foster managed to parry away Sergio Aguero’s half volley. Aguero then doubled Manchester City’s lead with a brilliant low strike from 25 yards that fizzed past keeper Foster and into the bottom corner.

West Brom managed to halt City’s scoring spree with a well taken goal on the break by Graham Dorrans, who shifted the ball onto his left foot and finished clinically.

Manchester City re-estabished their two-goal cushion in the 36th minute, when another Argentine found the net. Martin Demichelis lost his marker in the box and tapped in after Vincent Kompany had flicked on the corner.

The goalless second half was a cagey affair as City closed out a win that keeps West Brom only three points clear of the relegation zone. But there will be significant concern over the next few days over Silva, whose ankle injury will be a worry to Manchester City’s English Premier League (EPL) title challenge  and Spain’s FIFA World Cup 2014 challenge.
