In a rain curtailed match England defeated Pakistan by 44 runs via DL method to take an early lead. The hosts now will be eyeing to continue their domination over the visiting side.

Batting first Pakistan managed to score 260 in their allotted 50 overs. However, at one stage Pakistan were set for a big target with well-set Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik at the crease. The rains caused disruption and play was stopped. Once play resumed Pakistan lost wickets of Sarfraz and Malik quickly. Mohammad Nawaz and Imad Wasim could only add 34 runs for the seventh wicket in 5.3 overs. For Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali was top scorer with 82 off 11o balls. Wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz scored valuable 55.

In reply, England lost Alex Hales early as he was  removed by Umar Gul.89-run stand for the second wicket between Jason Roy and Joe Root then made sure England dominate the proceedings. Roy was dismissed for well made 65 off 6 balls. His wicket gave Pakistan some hope, but Root made sure England stay in the game.

Against the run of play the right-handed Root was finally run-out on an individual score of 61. Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes then took England close to target. However, rain intervened once again in the match. When heaven opened England were ahead by DL method and eventually, with no play possible, the hosts were declared winners by 44 runs.

Pakistan will be seeking to make a comeback in the series. Otherwise things will get difficult for them. Pakistan might think of leaving out Mohammad Hafeez and bring him youngster Samil Aslam in his place. England will look to retain the wining combination.
