Sri Lanka 142/9 in 20 Overs Sri Lanka needed 25 from the last over and they have shot themselves in the foot in this game here. They were on course with dinesh chandimal and chamara Kapugedera but the middle order simply collapsed from there. There is a lot to ponder about for Angelo Mathews and co.
Sri Lanka 127/8 in 18 Overs The target is still gettable but the Pakistan bowlers are on target. The batsmen are caught at the crease. They are just running the overs down.
Sri Lanka 120/8 in 17 Overs Wickets continue to fall in a heap for the Lankans and the latest to head back to the hut without making a significant contribution is Nuwan Kulasekera, who is caught short of the crease. Mohammad Amir is in action here. N Kulasekera Run Out 7 (8)
Sri Lanka 110/7 in 15 Overs Irfan has been spot on today and Pakistan lose another wicket. The Lankans though are committing professional suicide, and are losing wickets in a heap. Thisara Perera also perishes trying to go for the big hit. T Perera b Irfan 5 (4)
Sri Lanka 109/6 in 14.1 Overs More wickets tumble for Sri Lanka and this is simply careless cricket from the batsmen. Milinda Siriwardana decides to race away but is short of the crease. Imad Wasim is called into action again as it is his powerful throw that breaks the stumps. M Siriwardana Run Out 2 (5)
Sri Lanka 101/5 in 13 Overs Another big wicket goes and the Sri Lankan chase is falling off the rails. Mathews gets a boundary and but is castled to give the young left-arm spinner his fourth wicket. This is outstanding bowling. A Mathews b Imad Wasim 10 (7)
Sri Lanka 93/4 in 12.3 Overs Here is another wicket for Pakistan and it comes at just the right time. Thirimanne was cutting lose, especially against Afridi but the Pakistan skipper has the final laugh as Imad Wasim gets his wicket. L Thirimanne c Afridi b Imad Wasim 45 (37)
Sri Lanka 80/3 in 11 Overs Once again, Afridi is not getting it on the rough areas and Kapugedera gets another boundary. Imad Wasim though, gets another wicket and the Sri Lankan chase gets another jolt. C Kapugedera c U Akmal b Imad Wasim 14 (11)
Sri Lanka 66/2 in 9 Overs Imad Wasim was handed an over and in came Wahab Riaz after a nightmarish first over. His comeback over is decent. Five Singles off the ninth over.
Sri Lanka 55/2 in 7 Overs Imad Wasim strikes and it’s the big wicket of Chandimal. Hafeez takes a simple catch and that is the end of him. Afridi is having a forgettable day with the ball as well. Thirimanne goes over the top, attacking him from the word go and brings up two big hits to get the scoreboard moving.
Sri Lanka 38/1 in 5 Overs Last year, there was a similar assault on the Australian bowlers before he had to retire hurt. Then came a terrific hand in leading Sri Lanka to an improbable win against the Indians in Galle. Here, he just just walloped Wahab Riaz to smithereens, something that not too many players have managed to do in World Cricket. Chandima hits him for a six and then belts the left-armer for three boundaries in a row.
Sri Lanka 20/1 in 4 Overs Chandimal and Thirimane have both played a couple of handsome shots and Sri Lanka are up and away. It is still a long way to go but if this partnership builds, the Pakistanis will be on the back foot
Sri Lanka 3/1 in 2 Overs Out she goes and Pakistan draw first blood! Yet another failure with the bat for Dilshan, who needs to seriously rethink about continuing International cricket. Irfan gets one to come into the right hander, who nicks the ball to the keeper. T Dilshan c Sarfraz Ahmed b Irfan 0 (1)
Sri Lanka need 158 to win
Pakistan 157/5 in 20 Overs Final over is handed to Kulasekera. The batsmen get a couple of singles to start things off and then Hafeez gets a boundary . Imad Wasim is the new batsman at the crease and there are more singles off the last couple of deliveries and one more to finish the over. Sri Lanka will be happy the finish to the innings while Pakistan will be smiling with the score on the board. Hafeez was excellent and one can see the difference when he gets runs on the board.
Pakistan 147/5 in 19 Overs Finally, Sri Lanka get a wicket as Umar Akmal disappears trying to clear the ropes, Kapugedera pouches the ball in the deep. Hafeez on the other hand, is going from strength to strength and he brings up another boundary. The skipper has another forgettable outing at the crease. Once again, he goes for a big heave and it’s a golden duck for Afridi. No tears here, what did you expect? U Akmal c Kapugedera b Perera 19 (15), S Afridi c Senanayke b Perera 0 (1)
Pakistan 137/3 in 18 Overs After all the initial good work, it is falling off the rails for Chameera. Too many extras yet again. Hafeez has cut lose and brings up a couple of boundaries. Akmal takes strike and brings up another boundary, the third of the over. Couple of singles are taken to bring the over to a close. Massive over, the most expensive of the innings so far.
Pakistan 120/3 in 17 Overs Kulasekera is back into the attack and finally, Hafeez cuts lose and gets a boundary. He gets a couple too. It’s a single from the fifth ball of the over. Then, Umar Akmal gives the charge and smashes the ball over the ropes, it’s a SIX. Huge over for the Pakistanis, stoking some hopes of getting past the 150 mark yet again.
Pakistan 106/3 in 16 Overs Despite not taking many wickets, this passage of play is truly Sri Lanka’s and might go on to be the difference if Pakistanis lose this game from here. Chameera is wearing the batsmen down with his pace and the penultimate ball of the over has him over-stepping. Few extras from the pacer but it is yet another good over. Single from Umar Akmal to keep strike.
Pakistan 100/3 in 15 Overs Senanayake comes back into the attack and the Pakistani batsmen are not willing to attack him right away. Singles and twos taken but overall, it was a good over in the Sri Lankan scheme of things, five from it. Mathews persists with spin and once again, it’s only singles from that come from the blade of the Pakistani batsmen. Good all round cricket though, the batsmen refuse to gets stuck at the crease while the spinners are stemming the run flow of the Pakistanis here.
Pakistan 89/3 in 13 Overs Much needed wicket here for the Lankans. After flying off the blocks with a six, Sarfraz is stumped as Herath gets one to tease him outside the off-stump. Chandimal whips off the bails. Umar Akmal comes to the crease. Hafeez gets a couple off the last ball. Sarfraz Ahmed st Chandimal b Herath 13 (14)
Pakistan 84/2 in 12 Overs More woes for the Lankan spinners and Hafeez this time takes the ariel route off Milinda Siriwardana’s first over, hammering a SIX. Hafeez once again tries to clear the fence but only gets a couple. The Pakistanis bring up 10 from the left-arm spinner’s over. Then comes Thisara Perera into the attack. Hafeez is on the move and he gets a boundary from the third ball of the over. He runs the next ball down to fine leg for a single. After Sarfraz and Hafeez take a couple of singles, another bad delivery is punished to the fence. Hafeez is firmly on top of the bowlers and in comes another four to end the Perera over.
Pakistan 63/2 in 10 Overs Couple of tight overs and Sri Lanka wrestle back momentum in their favour. Spinners are not able to get the ball to spin away from the batsmen off the rough in these early overs. Hafeez brought up his second boundary in his short stay so far.
Pakistan 53/2 in 8 Overs It is pace that does the trick for Sri Lanka and the ploy to use Dushmanta Chameera late on castles Ahmed Shehzad. Sarfraz Ahmed is sent up the order and Sri Lanka are right back in the contest here. The scoring rate has dropped drastically and Chameera just bowled a peach of first over before Sarfraz decides to go over the top, what a way to get things away, SIX A Shehzad b Chameera 18 (19)
Pakistan 46/1 in 7 Overs More spin from Sri Lanka as Rangana Herath is into the attack. Hafeez is in no mood to get stuck at the crease and gets away with a four. The Pakistanis are rotating strike well here. The scoring rate is healthy too.
Pakistan 39/1 in 6 Overs Kulasekera was given another over and it was a tight one from the veteran Sri Lankan. After a breezy couple of overs, the batsmen decided to see Kulaksekera’s over out, just milking out a couple of singles of it. Senanayake though is target. The second ball of his second over has Sharjeel stepping down the track and piercing the field again, four. Shehzad soon joins in and gets a boundary of the fourth ball of the over. However, Sharjeel’s cameo comes to an end as Senanayake has him cleaned up. S Khan b Sennayake 23 (21)
Pakistan 25/0 in 4 Overs Sharjeel Khan is on the march and the boundaries are now flowing off the blade of the Pakistani batsmen. There was spin in the form of Sachitra Senanayake but the Pakistani opener was on the front-foot, taking the bowlers to the cleaners. Solid start for the Men in Green.
Pakistan 7/0 in 2 Overs Sri Lanka are starting with medium pace here and the Pakistanis are in no hurry to score runs. They want to preserve their wickets. Shehzad brings up the first boundary. Angelo Mathews and Nuwan Kulasekera bowled the first two overs.
Pakistan have won the toss and elected to bat on the surface they will be playing India in five days time.

Much depends on Angelo Mathews steering the ship for the Lankans. With Lasith Malinga frequently sitting out, the bowling lacks a bit of bite while the top order batting has time and again let the team down. Tillakaratne Dilshan has had quite a few critics baying for his blood in recent times due to his poor run of form. Pakistan youngsters should get a look-in here. The 2009 champions have enjoyed a good record in recent times against the defending champions, and it might just make the difference in the contest. Also Check- ICC T20 World Cup 2016 Schedule
