Newly-appointed head coach Ravi Shastri has put forward Bharat Arun’s name for bowling coach after meeting BCCI chief executive officer Rahul Johri on Monday in Mumbai.

Arun had also served as Indian cricket team’s bowling coach earlier from 2014 to 2016 during Shastri’s tenure as team director. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the decision on the support staff will be taken today when the three- member panel formed by Committee of Administrators (CoA) meets Shastri.

Then after the panel comprising of BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary and CoA member Diana Edulji will forward the recommendations to CoA chief Vinod Rai, who will be having a final say on the matter.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman had suggested Rahul Dravid (overseas) and Zaheer Khan as batting and bowling consultants. But CoA was disappointed that CAC picked Dravid and Zaheer without consulting them and Rai says the two names suggested were only recommendations.

Concerning Arun and others in the support staff’s appointment, they first need to address the conflict-of-interest issues. Arun till last season was contracted with IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore and is also coach of one of the teams in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Shastri after being appointed as head coach replacing Anil Kumble had made it clear of having his own support staff but was fine with what Dravid and Zaheer brought to the table with their inputs for the team.
