RCB vs KKR, IPL 2014: Kolkata pulls off a stunning win against Bangalore

Vinay Kumar special handed Kolkata Knight Riders an emphatic two runs win and halted Royal Challengers Bangalore’s winning run. RCB was in the driving seat until 19th over. Needing nine runs to win in the last over, Chris Lynn pulled off a blinder on boundary ropes to turn the tables and see AB de Villiers back in the hutch. Vinay Kumar held onto his line and length and cramped batsmen to score in the final over and restricted RCB to 148-5 in 20 overs.

Openers Yogesh Takawale and Parthiv Patel laid solid foundation and piled up 67 for the first wicket, before Takawale was adjudged lbw for 40 run off 28 balls, he hit eight 4s in his innings. In next over RCB lost another opener Parthiv Patel (21) and his wicket gave KKR a hope of victory but Captain Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh then put on a 55 run partnership for the third wicket to see RCB approaching the target
comfortably.

Sunil Narine’s quicker delivery cleaned Kohli who scored 31 runs and his wicket brought the run rate down. Yuvraj Singh (31) played some lusty blows before losing his wicket in penultimate over as he tried to go over the fence but was caught on boundary ropes by Yusuf Pathan.
Despite having six wickets intact RCB could not cross the line as Vinay Kumar bowled decently. He gave away only six runs in the final over and picked an all-important wicket of de Villiers (11) thanks to incredible catch by Chris Lynn.

Sunil Narine and Jacques Kallis provided KKR with vital breakthroughs and both picked one wicket, while Vinay Kumar’s two for 26 made sure KKR register their second win in the tournament. Earlier, RCB won the toss and elected to field first. KKR lost early wickets but a solid 80 run partnership between Jacques Kallis and Chris Lynn helped KKR post a target of 151. Varun Aaron bagged three wickets and was economical giving away just 16 runs.
