Suryakumar Yadav hit a brilliant fifty as Kolkata Knight Riders continued their rampaging run by notching up a two-wicket win against Rising Pune Supergiants in a last-over IPL thriller here today. Rising Pune Supergiants posted a competitive 160 for 5, courtesy a superb 52-ball 67-run innings by opener Ajinkya Rahane, after KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to field. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, KKR were always in the hunt as big hits came in regular intervals, always keeping the run rate in check. Umesh Yadav clinched the contest with a big six with three balls left in the game. Surely, it was one of the most thrilling encounters in the tournament. It was the lack of runs that did RPS in: The scoring rate till the last few overs lacked urgency and Kevin Pietersen’s presence was immensely missed, especially when Steve Smith is struggling to score runs at the other end. Albie Morkel and MS Dhoni’s big hits in the final overs in the final overs took them to a competitive total; 70 runs had come of the last five overs. In reply, KKR got off to the worst possible start, Robin Uthappa was trapped in front of the first ball of the innings from Albie Morkel. Gambhir and Surya went about their business with minimum fuss and brought up many boundaries in the first few overs. The KKR skipper might have run himself out in a rather careless fashion but that didn’t effect KKR’s scoring rate, which was consistently tailing behind what was required. Then came big hits from Yusuf Pathan, who played a useful hand, and Andre Russell. 18 was needed from the last two overs but it was left to the tailenders to finish the contest from there. Piyush Chawla holed out in the deep. Umesh Yadav was not going to take any half-measures with his hitting and clubbed a massive six over long-on off Thisara Perera.
