Sachin Tendulkar celebrates his 44th birthday today. The master blaster enjoyed glorious 24 years of top class cricket. Let’s take a look at top five moments of Sachin’s outstanding career which will remain etched in our minds forever.

Desert storm in Sharjah: The most unforgettable moment of Sachin’s career. India needed to bettered New Zealand’s run-rate in order to qualify for the final against Australia in the Coca-Cola Cup that took place in 1998. The target was reduced from 285 in 50 overs to 276 in 46 because of a sand storm.

According to calculations, India needed 237 even in the case of a defeat to oust the Kiwis. Cometh the moment cometh the man and the man here was Sachin Tendulkar who played an innings to remember and smashed 143 runs. Master Blaster single-handedly saw India through but they lost the game. Two days later, he cracked 134 in the final against Oz as India won.

Going past Sunil Gavaskar: The 35 test century record by Sunil Gavaskar was beaten by Sachin Tendulkar against Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla in 2005. The moment of pride made Sachin and his fans wait for one long year to witness the magnificent record broken. Albeit after playing 79 ODI’s Sachin smashed his first 100. However, the wait was worth it.

Hundredth 100: In 2012, Sachin Tendulkar made a unique century of centuries with 114 off 147 balls in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh in Mirpur that brought him to tears. Little master has a record of 100 International Centuries and this is the highest number of Centuries by any player ever. He has 49 ODI and 51 Test Centuries to his name! This is definitely a very hard record to break and it will surely last for a really long time.

Double Century in ODI: The city of Gwalior witnessed history being made when South Africa toured India in February 2010. In the second ODI, the Master Blaster played an innings of a lifetime by ending the innings not out on 200. Sachin took only 147 balls to reach this milestone and create a new world record of becoming the first batsman in the history of cricket to score the double century in ODI. His innings consisted of 25 Fours and 3 Sixes.

Hero cup last over: Sachin not only proved his talent with the bat but also with the ball. It was the super thriller semi-final between India and South Africa in 1993. The match was well down to the last over and South Africa required just 6 runs to win. Then, the ball went into Sachin’s hand and he carried it off with confidence and conceded only three runs.

24 years, 49 centuries, more than 18 thousand ODI runs and just one man behind it. Remember the name, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
