Shame! Olympics medalist Yogeshwar Dutt’s birthday forgotten in Shah Rukh Khan’s 50th B-day hoopla!

While the entire world was busy celebrating Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on November 2nd, one big personality got overlooked. India’s pride, Olympic winning medalist Yogeshwar Dutt turned 33 on Monday. In a private affair, the Haryana-born athlete celebrated his 33rd birthday with his friends and fellow wrestlers. One of India’s biggest hope in Rio 2016 Olympics, Yogeshwar shared birthday pictures on his Facebook page. We are sorry for being part of the ignorant section of the society and would set the record straight by wishing the champion wrestler a belated Happy Birthday.

Yogeshwar Dutt who has made the country proud on several occasions including 2012 Summer Olympics and 2014 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games had a small get together on his special day. The 33-year-old had won Bronze medal in Beijing Olympics while bagged gold in both the Glasgow Commonwealth Games as well as Asian Games in Incheon last year.

It was little disheartening to see no major wishes coming in for Yogeshwar Dutt who has made a huge contribution in the Indian sports. The recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2012 and Padma Shri in 2013, it was his fellow friends who joined him at the celebrations. It is real shame that we are so biased in our treatment to non-Cricketing sport stars who make us proud.

Birthday celebration with friends!

In present times, when there is so much talk on the promotion of sports other than cricket, no major mention of these ideals is disappointing. Indian athletes like Yogeshwar Dutt have brought recognition and glory to the nation, it is our duty to give the due respect and recognition they deserve.

Lots of love to everyone who came to wish me well!

Upon realization of the folly, there is a section that might jump to the other end of the fence and start blaming Shah Rukh Khan and even abusing him. But have we still understood our mistake. We do not think so. It is not Bollywood actor’s mistake for being so widely popular but it is us who fail in recognizing other superstars as well. Well, it is high time we move beyond our craze for Bollywood and cricket to see other stars shining.
