New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan will miss the first three one-day internationals (ODIs) against Australia, starting this Sunday in Chennai. The opener has been released from the squad, which was announced few days back, to be with his wife who is unwell.

Meanwhile, no replacement has been named as Team India already has three openers – Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane – in the squad.

“Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India 2017 to attend to his wife, who is unwell,” read a BCCI statement.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for Mr Dhawan in Indian Cricket Team,” the statement further read.

Dhawan, who has been in good form, had to miss the last few games against Sri Lanka as well after he flew back to India to be with his unwell mother. The opener missed the fifth and final ODI apart from the one-off T20I.

The BCCI selectors have named squad for the first three ODIs only. Hopefully, Dhawan makes it to the team for the remaining part of the series.
