Pakistan managed to score a total of 260 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, after Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first, although the decision to bat first looked like a huge mistake when Lasith Malinga picked up 3 quick wickets upfront and left Pakistan in huge danger at 18/3. Malinga dismissed both the inform batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez as well as Sharjeel khan who opened the innings with Shehzad.

It was only because of a gritty partnership between Misbah ul Haq and Fawad Alam that Pakistan could manage some sort of stability to their innings and helped them later to initiate an assault over the Lankan bowlers in the last ten overs. Misbah scored a fighting half century (65) before holing out to long onn of Malinga’s delivery while Fawad Alam (114) scored the first century of his international career. Umar Akmal also played a very useful hand in the death overs and scored a lightning 57. On the other hand Sri Lanka started really well in the bowling department and kept it really tight to start with. Lasith Malinga and Suranga Lakmal bowled well in tandem and didn’t give away anything to the Pakistani batsmen. But that was about it and Malinga finished as the only wicket taker from the Sri Lankan side.

Given the kind of bowling attack Pakistan boasts of this promise to be another exciting game to end the Asia cup. It would be another epic battle between bat and ball. The whole match depends upon how well the Sri Lankan top order handles the spin attack of Pakistan. It’s just another 3 and a half hours before we find out the new champions of Asia!!

Brief score: Pakistan260/5 (Fawad Alam-114, Misbah ul Haq-65, Umar Akmal-57.   Lasith Malinga-5/56).
