Born on October 20, 1978, Virender Sehwag, the Delhi dasher will indubitably feature in top openers list to have played the game. The Nawab of Najafgarh, Sehwag made his One-Day International (ODI) debut in 1999 against Pakistan and Test debut against South Africa in 2001. At the summit of his career Sehwag’s bat yielded runs at will and he was the most destructive and feared opener around.There are innumerable instances when Sehwag evolved as the match winner. Sehwag was in the team around the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly, yet he was prominent. We take a look at records held by this talented batsman.

 1)     In December 2009 Sehwag scored 284 in a day against Sri Lanka in a Test, the most by an Indian.

2)     He is the only Indian batsman to have scored two triple centuries in Test cricket. He scored his first triple ton (309) against Pakistan at Multan in 2004 and then 319 against South Africa at Chennai in 2008.

3)     Sehwag along with Sachin Tendulkar are the only Indians to have made six double centuries.

4)     Sehwag’s 319 against South Africa is the highest score by an Indian batsman in Test cricket.

5)     Sehwag also has the fastest triple century to his name; he achieved the feat off just 278 balls.

6)     He is the first person in the history of Test cricket to hit two triple centuries and take five wickets in a Test innings. While his triple centuries came against Pakistan and South Africa, he scalped five-for against Australia at his home ground Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi in 2008.
