On return to Test cricket, it was certain that Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir will not only have to face the England batsmen but the crowd as well. After completing his five-year ban, Amir made a comeback to Pakistan’s Test side and was welcomed back at Lord’s. However, on the opening day’s play at Old Trafford, Manchester, the left-arm pacer faced an unpleasant situation when some section of spectators booed at him.

At the start of play, there were taunts of ”no-ball” directed at Amir as he opened the bowling for Pakistan. Amir was banned for five years after his involvement in spot-fixing during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010.

Playing his first Test after a gap of over five years, Amir picked just three wickets at Lord’s. Pakistan won that match by 75 runs.

After being taunted, Amir chose to reply in the best possible way as he removed both the England openers. Alex Hales was the first one to be dismissed with Amir going through his defence. Hales fell in seventh over of the day.

After the early jolt, England skipper put on an 185-run stand with Joe Root. Cook during this partnership scored his Test career’s 29th ton. The England skipper then fell to Amir’s bowling for well made 105.

At the close of play, England were comfortably placed at 314 for four with Joe Root and Chris Woakes batting on 141 and two respectively.
Earlier this year, making his return to international cricket the crowd during a T20 International (T20I) in New Zealand also booed the Pakistan pacer.
