Well Played Girls! Twitterati Hail Women’s Team Despite Going Down in The Final
Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar also joined in and praised women's team for their effort
Indian eves fell nine runs short of the target in the final of ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 against England at Lord’s. However, despite that the girls have earned praises from all-around in what has already been an impressive campaign.
India Women’s team, only second time in the history, made it to the finals of the World Cup. The Mithali Raj-led side looked comfortable to clinch their maiden title, but a batting collapse dashed all the hopes. On their way to the final, India lost only two matches out of eight. In the semifinal, India knocked out defending champions Australia to enter the summit clash. Not just celebrities but ordinary people were seen praising India’s effort as well.

Chasing 229, India were bundled out for 219. At one stage India were 191/4 and looked set for a win. The hosts then pulled back things and picked remaining wickets for just 28 runs to register a fascinating win. Earlier, England opted to bat first and posted 228. Jhulan Goswami picked three wickets for just 23 runs in her quota of ten overs to help India restrict England to a specific total.
The pacer, Shrubsole, was fittingly awarded as the player of the match while England opener Tammy Beaumont was adjudged player of the tournament for her 410 runs in the World Cup.
