What to expect from EPL Matchday 25: Preview and predictions

The English Premier League gets much more interesting especially with two mouthwatering clashes that will seriously change the table. Arsenal will be looking to gather a strong lead as Manchester City face a timid Norwich City side. Chelsea will be looking to continue a convincing run of form against Newcastle United. Here are our predictions for the weekend:

Liverpool Vs Arsenal

This mouthwatering clash opens the weekend’s Premier League fixtures. Jack Wilshere’s availability is great news for Arsenal, who have a whole set of midfielders out with injury. The 22 year-old will partner Mikel Arteta in a battle against Liverpool’s very own Steven Gerrard.

Arsenal’s defensive solidity will be the only advantage against Liverpool. But the attacking pairing of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge might cause trouble for the Londoners nonetheless. Their high mobility might be too much to handle for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny if they’re not up for it.

Olivier Giroud will have a huge task against Liverpool as the Frenchman will be the only striker pitted against Brendon Rodger’s side. While Luis Suarez who has been in the best form of his life might have a field day at Anfield.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal

Chelsea Vs Newcastle

After outwitting Manchester City last week thanks to their Portuguese tactical genius, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea will be hoping to keep going strong with their new-found confidence in the league. Chelsea will have it easy against Newcastle on Saturday as the Toon might still be recuperating from their 3-0 thrashing by Sunderland last week.

Eden Hazard who recently said he wishes to reach the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will let his skills do the talking against Newcastle and it won’t be surprising if the Belgian gets on the score sheet.

Chelsea fans will finally get a glimpse of their new boy January Mohamed Salah who joined them in the January transfer window.  Expect his debut to be nothing short of impressive.

There’s a lot of unrest on Tyneside at the moment after Yohan Cabaye’s departure. Joe Kinnear has also departed the club as the club’s director of football and with no signings in January, Newcastle still have to find themselves in the league. Newcastle also have their in-form striker Loic Remy suspended and midfield commander Cheick Tiote out injured.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle

Norwich Vs Manchester City

After being outsmarted by Mourinho’s Chelsea, Manuel Pellegrini’s Man City side are out for a kill. Norwich are unfortunate to face the Manchester club right after the Chelsea embarrassment. Expect nothing short of a Norwich thrashing by Man City at Carrow Road.

After Argentine Martin Demichelis had a horror show positioned at midfield against Chelsea, Pellegrini will slot Demichelis back in the defence to partner Vincent Kompany. City’s Chilean manager will definitely try to find their winning  formula without the injured pair of Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho as their clash against Barcelona in the Champions League approaches.

Prediction: Norwich 0-5 Manchester City

Tottenham Vs Everton

A solid match to say the least, both teams are vying for a spot in the top 4. Everton’s challenge for European football next season has remained constant, losing just three games all season out of which one of was a 4-0 drubbing by an in-form Liverpool. But a hard earned victory over Aston Villa after the Merseyside derby has brought Everton back to the right frame of mind.

Spanish manager Roberto Martinez will be boosted by the return of forward Gerard Deulofeu for their trip to White Hart Lane. Seamus Coleman is expected to return to his right-back position after sitting on the substitute bench against Aston Villa following his return from injury. Their loan signing from Monaco Lacina Traore might play a part as a substitute as well.

Everton’s Kevin Mirallas will be looking to replicate his performance from the game against Aston Villa and will be a handful for the Tottenham defence for sure. Andros Townsend and Mousa Dembele are expected to play a part in the game for Tottenham after finally returning from injuries. Tottenham’s sudden availability of options will be pleasing for manager Tim Sherwood.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Everton

Manchester United Vs Fulham

Manchester United and Fulham are struggling are both struggling to find form in the league. David Moyes will be clashing against a man who probably knows Manchester United more than him. Rene Meulensteen who was Manchester United’s first team coach is hoping for a bright side as his woeful side currently sit last in the standings.

Manchester United’s only strength this season is their high options in attack, so it won’t be surprising to see more than 2 goals scored by the side tonight as Fulham aren’t as stubborn defensively as the other sides in the league. So Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney might get on the score sheer at Old Trafford.

All eyes will be set on Nemanja Vidic who made the headlines for announcing his departure at the end of the season, as the Serbian returns from his suspension. The centreback will face a tough fight against Fulham’s record-signing Kostas Mitroglou who replaced Dimitar Berbatov in the transfer window. John Heitinga and Lewis Holtby might be Fulham’s only weapons against Moyes’ side and against relegation later on this season.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Fulham
