Will Continue Playing for a Couple of Years, Says Mithali Raj

Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj has said that she will continue playing cricket for a couple of more years, hinting that retirement is not on the cards. However, the Indian captain made it clear that she doesn’t see herself playing the next World Cup scheduled in 2021. “I do see myself playing for a couple of years, but I don’t see myself playing another world cup,” said Mithali in the post-match presentation.

Reflecting on the match, Mithali said she was proud of her team and the way they defeated some top class sides. “It wasn’t easy for England but credit to them for holding their nerve. They did well in those crunch moments which turned the game. I want to tell my girls that I am very proud of them. They didn’t make it easy for any of the teams,” she said. Also Read- Well Played Girls! Twitterati Hail Women’s Team Despite Going Down in The Final

The highest run-scorer in Women’s cricket also thanked the crowd for turning up in large numbers and believes back home in India people will look up to female cricketers. “I am sure people at home would now look up to women cricketers,” Mithali said.

The Indian captain was in praise of fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who like her skipper featured in her last World Cup. “Jhulan is a class bowler, she has shown it a number of times,” said the 34-year-old.

Mithali also said that Jhulan’s career is inspirational. “Jhulan has had an excellent career, very long and inspirational for young cricketers,” she added. Also Check- India vs England Women’s World Cup Final- As it Happened

The skipper blamed inexperienced batting for the loss in the final but was confident that the outing would help them in the long run. “The batting was a little inexperienced, and they couldn’t hold their nerve in the end overs. I am sure this experience will help the batters,” Mithali said.

Mithali, who became the first female cricketer to score 6000 runs in ODIs, has played 186 matches for India. She has six hundreds and 49 fifties against her name.
