Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Semi-final 2014 Preview: Lucie Safarova [23] vs Petra Kvitova [6]

In an all-Czech affair No. 6 seed Petra Kvitova will take on compatriot Lucie Safarova, seeded 23rd in the Wimbledon Championships for a place in the final. Petra Kvitova enjoys a fair advantage over Safarova as she has been the past winner at All England Club in 2011. Kvitova will be better at handling pressure of playing in front of packed centre court compared to Lucie Safarova who is making her first majors appearance. Petra Kvitova also holds an edge over Safarova as she leads 5-0 head-to-head record.
But nevertheless Lucie Safarova on her route to her first grand slam semi-finals played some sensational matches at Wimbledon. She also had an easy draw compared to other girls and she took complete advantage of it. The highest seed Safarova faced in her five matches was No. 10 seed Dominika Cibulkova whom she defeated easily in straight sets. As for Petra Kvitova herself the draw proved to be beneficial with only star name was in form of former Wimbledon champion Venus Williams.
Both the girls will look forward to cementing their place in the final of Wimbledon Championships 2014. Lucie Safarova has been inspirational in the tournament so far but will need to be at her best against countrywoman and 2011 Wimbledon winner to be any kind of threat. Despite Lucie Safarova’s challenge, sixth seed Petra Kvitova should win the match in three sets.
