Zimbabwe did exactly what they were supposed to do, hammer UAE. Chasing mere target of 117 Zimbabwe looked to accelerate upfront, as they needed to achieve the target within 15.4 overs only to make sure they finish with a better run rate, but lost three quick wickets while doing so and were 24/3., with Hamilton Masakadza (2), Brendon Taylor (15) and Sean Williams (0) the three causalities.
Sikandar Raza (9) and Vusi Sibanda (16) looked to cool things down, but Raza could not hold on for long and sliced one into the hands of deep backward point. His dismissal brought Elton Chigumbura (53*) at the crease and he looked to be in a hurry as he opened his account with a six and a four. He added 29 runs with Sibanda for the 5th wicket before Sibanda was caught and bowl off Captain Khurram Khan.
Chigumbura and T Maruma rip apart UAE bowling and took Zimbabwe home as they notched quick-fire unbeaten 55 run stand, which also saw Zimbabwe go up on points table with a bolstering run rate.
Chigumbura’s innings comprised of six fours and three mighty hits over the fence as he notched his half century off just 21 balls.
Manjula Guruge was the pick of UAE bowlers as he picked two wickets for 18 runs. Khurram Khan and Shadeep Silva chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Earlier, UAE batsmen looked dizzy against Zimbabwe spinners Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza who shared 5 wickets between them and were restricted to 116/9 in 20 overs.
Zimbabwe will now be praying for Netherlands marginal win over Ireland later in the day so as to advance to super 10.
