AR Rahman pays tribute to 26/11 Mumbai attack victims with beautiful cover of ‘Hum Ko Mann Ki Shakti Dena’

AR Rahman pays tribute to 26/11 Mumbai attack victims with beautiful cover of 'Hum Ko Mann Ki Shakti Dena'

Mumbai, November 27: Seven years ago, Mumbai, the commercial hub of India was hit by a string on terror attacks, perpetrated by a group of 10 terrorists. The attacks wounded the spirit of the city, which resides in the heart of its residents. But it stood up yet again and that is the very spirit that defines the city. As a tribute to that very spirit and to those innocent lives that were lost in the attacks, music composer extraordinaire Allah Rakha Rahman, dedicated the timeless song “Humko Mann Ki Shakti Dena”. 

The song has been penned by veteran lyricist and poet Gulzar and is the from the 1971 Bollywood film Guddi. The song has become a common prayer song, which is used in schools during morning assembly and its beautiful lyrics are timeless and forever relevant. Rahman shared a video of a cover of the song, sung especially by him, as a tribute to the dastardly attacks, which will forever be etched in the memories of Mumbaikars. The lyrics are relevant especially in the context of the attacks, as they implore a higher power to grant the people with a strong will to move on, despite difficult circumstances. Rahman shared the video on his Facebook page, saying that he was dedicating the song, to all the victims of hate. “Humko Mann Ki Shakti Dena – On this day, in 2008, humanity was tried, tested and annihilated. This song, written by Gulzar with music by Vasant Desai and sung by me is dedicated to all victims of hate… You are welcome to join me in this prayer…”, Rahman said in the post.
