It is quite shocking that the video of the incident that took place in the year 2014, took almost a year to surface online. The incident took place on October 20, 2014 when police officer Jason Van Dyke shot the 17-year- old 16 times only to kill him.
The incident had caused a lot of uproar as it also had a racist angle to the whole incident; McDonald, who is black was killed by Van Dyke. It was reported that the teenager was apparently carrying a knife and had allegedly acted erratically before he was shot by the police officer.
The police officers had worked to keep the teenager away from rest of the pedestrians on that day. Although the police union claimed that Laquan McDonald had tried to thrust forward at Van Dyke. After which the officer fired 16 times at the teenager. But the dash-cam video does not support the account of the police union officers.
As soon as the dash-cam video surfaced online, a lot of protesters gathered to voice their disagreement at the tragic incident that took place a year before. Van Dyke has been charged with murder, also it was ensured that the announcement of the charges were on the same date as the dash-cam video was released. The video below contains graphic content.
