The Bollywood movie Manjhi – The Mountain Man has been made on Dashrath Manjhi – the man who with his grit and determination spent years breaking a mountain to build a road through his village. The film stars acclaimed actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. But we are more interested in the real story of Dashrath Manjhi, as we saw in Aamir Khan’s TV show Satyamev Jayate.
A labourer from Bihar, Dashrath wanted his people to have access to doctors, jobs, education, and opportunities, and thus built a road single-handedly. His legend says he did only with a hammer, a chisel, and a crowbar – carving a road through the 300-foot mountain that separated his village from the nearest town.
