Dorothy Hodgkin’s Google Doodle to celebrate Nobel laureate’s 104th birthday

Today’s Google Doodle (May 12) celebrates the 104th birthday – or birth anniversary – of Dorothy Hodgkin, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist credited with confirming the structure of Penicillin. She also discovered the structure of Vitamin B12.

Dorothy Hodgkin was born on May 12, 1910 in Cairo. She worked in Britain as a chemist and scientist and is known for the development of advanced protein crystallography. She received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1964. She also received the Order of Merit in 1965, being only the second woman to receive so after Florence Nightingale.
