Huma Qureshi is a famous Bollywood actress who shot to fame with her debut in Anurag Kashyap's drama Gangs of Wasseypur. Huma, a history honours graduate from Delhi University was born on 28 July, 1986 into a Muslin family of New Delhi. Her father, Saleem Qureshi, runs a chain of famous restaurants in the capital city by the name of Saleem's and mother Ameena Qureshi is a home maker. Huma has three brothers of which Saqib Saleem Qureshi is also an actor. After completing her graduation, Huma worked with a theater group and in 2008 decided to shift to Mumbai for trying her luck in the film industry. She got the opportunity to audition for a film called Junction. The movie, however, was never made. Not miffed by the same, Huma started taking up television commercials and signed up a two year deal with FMCG giant Unilever. She started promoting various products and was seen in different television commercials for products like Vita Marie, Saffola Oil, Mederma Cream and Pears Soap. She also did commercials with Bollywood biggies like Aamir Khan for Samsung Guru and Shah Rukh Khan for Nerolac. It was during her shoot for Samsung Mobiles that she was noticed by director Anurag Kashyap who was impressed by her acting abilities. Convinced, he signed her up for a three movie deal. She was slated for a debut with a Tamil movie Billa II directed by Chakri Toletti, she had to move away from the project when I got delayed. Instead, Huma had her debut with Anurag Kashyap's much acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 in 2012. The two part thriller saw her in a supporting role opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She played the role of Mohsina, the supportive wife of a criminal. She received excellent reviews for her portrayal of a Bollywood inspired village girl. Her garish clothes, perfect diction and brilliant acting all made people stand up and take notice of her. She was widely appreciated by renowned film critics. Some went on to compare her earthiness, looks and sincere acting style to yesteryear actress - the famous Smita Patil. The success got helped her reprise her role of Mohsina in the sequel of the movie, Gangs of Wasseypur - Part II in the same year. She was later seen in Anurag Kashyap's comedy - Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana in lead role opposite actor Kunal Kapoor. The movie was a light family comedy in which the lead - Omi Khurana comes back to his village when he runs into bad luck. He meets his childhood sweetheart Harman (played by Huma) who is all set to get married to his cousin. What follows is a discovery of the age old secret recipe of the famous Chicken Khurana and turn of fortunes for the family by revival of the famous Khurana Dhabha. The movie was a commercial and critical success and did good business both in India and oversees. She was then seen in the movie - Ek Thi Daayan in the year 2013 in the role of Tamara, wife of the male protagonist Bobo, played by Emran Hashmi. Though her role was limited in the movie, she received great acclaim for the same. In the same year she was seen in Shorts's segment as Sujata. She was widely appreciated for her acting in the same. Huma also played the role of Zoya in the widely awaited thriller D Day. The movie, however, failed to live up to the hype created and flopped at the box office. Huma's next outing was in the widely popular and successful sequel - Dedh Ishqiya in 2014. The movie also featured Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. The movie was a super success and Huma won a Stardust Award in the Breakthrough Supporting Performance Female category. Her next movie was in a supporting role of a prostitute in Varun Dhawan starrer - Badlapur released in 2015. The movie got her a Filmfare nomination. Huma has done a Marathi film, Highway. Next she would be seen in Zahhak, the remake of Hollywood film Oculus along with her brother Saqib Saleem and also the much awaited sequel to Jolly LLB. She would also be seen opposite Mammoothy in her Malayalam debut film White and in a Hollywood movie by Gurinder Chaddha's (of Bend it Like Beckham fame) Viceroys House.
